After six years in court, Okporua Otobrise, who kidnapped a journalist, has been sentenced to 17 years' imprisonment. Justice F.N. Azinge pronounced the judgment on Monday at the Delta State High Court in Asaba.  Otobrise kidnapped Monday Whiskey, a Warri-based journalist, on March 19, 2012 at Orhuwhorhun in Udu council area of the state.   Otobrise, who hails from Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state, and others who are now at large were found guilty of the crime after the prosecution counsel, a Deputy Director, T.P.I. Uriah, and E.S. Ifedora concluded their arguments. Justice Azinge declared in his judgment that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to kidnappers in the country.  He said: “It is common knowledge that the spate of kidnapping is on the increase in Nigeria, particularly in Delta State.  The Koforidua District Police Command of the Ghana Police Force over the weekend, raided and arrested twelve persons found to be allegedly soliciting for sex at Bula spot, a popular brothel in the Eastern Regional capital. The owner of the facility, 61-year-old Anthony Ekar was also arrested in the swoop. The photo of the young mother who abandoned her baby in a toilet stall at a market in Delta State has been released. The mother simply identified as Edesiri gave birth to the baby at the newly commissioned ultra modern market in Sapele area and abandoned her there. The child was rescued after vigilante men in the area heard the baby's cry on Saturday night and followed the sound of the voice as well as traces of blood which eventually led them to a female toilet in the market.   The baby was taken to the hospital where she was cleaned up, fed, and treated.
