After six years in court, man bags 17 years jail term for kidnapping a journalist in Delta State

After six years in court, Okporua Otobrise, who kidnapped a journalist, has been sentenced to 17 years' imprisonment. Justice F.N. Azinge pronounced the judgment on Monday at the Delta State High Court in Asaba.  Otobrise kidnapped Monday Whiskey, a Warri-based journalist, on March 19, 2012 at Orhuwhorhun in Udu council area of the state.   Otobrise, who hails from Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state, and others who are now at large were found guilty of the crime after the prosecution counsel, a Deputy Director, T.P.I. Uriah, and E.S. Ifedora concluded their arguments. Justice Azinge declared in his judgment that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to kidnappers in the country.  He said: “It is common knowledge that the spate of kidnapping is on the increase in Nigeria, particularly in Delta State.  The Koforidua District Police Command of the Ghana Police Force over the weekend, raided and arrested twelve persons found to be allegedly soliciting for sex at Bula spot, a popular brothel in the Eastern Regional capital. The owner of the facility, 61-year-old Anthony Ekar was also arrested in the swoop. A 23-year-old Nigerian sex worker was among women arrested in the raid.  Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Offier, DSP Eben Tetteh said the district commander, Chief Superintendent Aduhene Binneh led a team of police officers and community protection personnel to the scene and apprehended the suspects. Those arrested are:  Gideon Syivor Mendah, 42, Michael Adjei 40, William Danquah, 24, Ekpo Torbe, 23 , Kwaku Ayogame ,30, Kwame Musah, 24. The rest are Mary Wondalo 39, Rachel Adofo, 26, Constance Abiaw, 20, Joyce Monday, 23,  a Nigerian national and Paulina Ayisi, age 20. The place is notorious for the trading of sex, especially in th...

American producer and director of television and live events, Glenn Weiss, 57, stole the show at the Emmy Awards last night when he proposed to his girlfriend during his acceptance speech on stage.The 57-year-old director of the Oscars who won the award for Directing for a Variety Special popped the question to his girlfriend, Jan Svendsen on live television after winning an Emmy.In his emotional speech, :'Jan, you are the sunshine in my life, and mom was right, don’t ever let go of your sunshine,' the director said. 'You wonder why I don't like to call you my girlfriend?  A cyclist is said to be riding to Abuja after arriving Nigeria from Morroco. According to reports, the man who is a Muslim, said he wants to tour Nigeria and take pictures after hearing so much about the country.An eyewitness who goes by the name Sani Musa Saminaka on Facebook, disclosed that he saw the Moroccan man today at Shanga local government area in Kebbi State as the man took pictures with the excited villagers who supported him for his journey.     It was reported earlier this year (in February) that a Chinese female cyclist, Huang Shuang, rode from Morocco to Lagos, Nigeria, within five months. The photo of the young mother who abandoned her baby in a toilet stall at a market in Delta State has been released. The mother simply identified as Edesiri gave birth to the baby at the newly commissioned ultra modern market in Sapele area and abandoned her there. The child was rescued after vigilante men in the area heard the baby's cry on Saturday night and followed the sound of the voice as well as traces of blood which eventually led them to a female toilet in the market.   The baby was taken to the hospital where she was cleaned up, fed, and treated. Offa robbery: Court summons Saraki over fresh criminal complaint

The last has not been heard about the Offa bank robbery in which the senate president Bukola Saraki, has been implicated in. Yesterday Sptember 17th, a Grade I Area Court in Aco Estate, Lugbe, Abuja, ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, to serve a summons on the Senate President to compel him to face a criminal complaint initiated against him by an Abuja based lawyer and Humanrights activist, Oluwatosin Ojaomo,  private lawyer in respect of the bloody bank robbery. Recall that in April this year, a coordinated bank robbery by a gang in Offa, Kwara state, left over 20 persons dead.  Some of the key suspects arrested in connection with the robbery, have confessed to being the political thugs of Saraki.They alleged that the weapons used during the attack were provided by Saraki for political harrassment but that they converted the arms for robbery.According to Punch, the criminal complaint marked, CR/196/2018, was said to ...
